About NEF

The NEF is a platform that connects science, society and policy in Africa and the rest of the world – with the goal to leverage science for human development globally. The NEF believes that Africa’s contributions to the global scientific community are critical for global progress. At the centre of our efforts at NEF, is Africa’s young people, the driving force for Africa’s scientific renaissance.

About the Scientific African

The Next Einstein Forum (NEF) launched the first volume of Scientific African (SciAf), a peer-reviewed, open access, inter- and multidisciplinary scientific journal in March 2018. SciAf is dedicated to expanding access to African research, increasing intra-African scientific collaboration, and building academic research capacity in Africa.

It’s sister publication, a open-access magazine, Scientific African Magazine, was launched in December 2018 to document science and technology developments in Africa and from Africans for the general public, with a special focus on the published research in Scientific African. It reviews relevant, science-driven research and innovations and asks the hard questions around Africa’s investments in science and technology.

“To make sure that the research published in scientific African was reaching the public, we decided to create a magazine that would explain the research and its implications to the public. For this first edition, we focused on the articles from the journal but in the future, we will add content on a wide range of topics with contributions from science journalists from across the continent. Let me thank the first contributors to the journal,” said Nathalie Munyampenda, Managing Director of the Next Einstein Forum and editor-in-chief of Scientific African Magazine.
